Fall Fashion in Elle Ukraine

In a spread from Elle Ukraine‘s 2010 September issue, photographer Nikolay Biryukov, along with creative director Nataliya Osadchaya, captures a haunting, vacant mood with his photographs of model Charlotte.

I think this photograph is beautiful. The patches of diffused and direct light and the shadows that light casts are somewhat whimsical and haunting at the same time. The statue is an interesting foil to the model, both beautiful and pale. The colors within the photograph are overall neutral, but the model’s red lipstick stands out, adding a small flash of color. Artistically, it seems to distinguish the living from the statuesque within the photo.

I was inspired to look up more photo shoots from fashion magazines following our viewing of The September Issue in class on Thursday. The photographs that I found are stunning and beautiful and have such intricate art direction. I can understand why Grace would be so upset whenever any of them are cut, though some necessarily must be cut.
